ITINERARY
Day 1 Hike to Collanes (BL, D)
Pickup from your accomodation at 8.00 a.m. and 1- hours transfer to the entrance of Sangay National Park (3200 m) We put our equipement on pack horses and start the hike. Today’s trail can be extremely muddy and rubber boots will be provided. In clear weather, we will enjoy the views of the extinct volcano and the valley of Collanes river. After about 6 hours we reach the campsite at 3850 m.
Day 2 Yellow Lake (B, BL)
Early morning we hike uphill for about 2 hours to the spectacular Laguna Amarilla, El Altar’s crater lake. From the plateau at 4300 m we have marvelous views of the turquoise-green lake and the snow-capped peaks. With some luck, you can spot the Andean Condor. We return to the campsite and after a break hike back down to the trailhead. Return transfer to Riobamba.
